backstory
THE RAVEN + THE KITE
The lead characters in this story (and the inspiration for this brand) are The White-Necked Raven (Corvus albicollis) and The Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus). Both are endemic to Southern Africa.
The Raven is not entirely dark - in contrast to her shiny blackness she has a white patch on the back of her neck, and the very tip of her beak is white, too. The Kite is not entirely light - his white and grey plumage is punctuated with black accents on his wings, and black markings around his eyes.
Each uniquely graces the piercing blue African sky; the rocky outcrop; and the thorny tree. Each imparts wisdom through its quirks and calls.
Despite my lifelong Star Wars fanaticism, my realisation that finding the balance between light and dark is pretty darn important took me by surprise! Sitting alone on a mountain-ledge at the edge of the Karoo it hit me - to be in balance I need to acknowledge and observe both the Raven and the Kite.
Like a Rembrandt portrait - I am both the shadow and the light.
"We call upon three - light, dark, and balance true. One is no greater than the others. Together, they unite, restore, centre, and renew. We walk into the light, acknowledge the dark, and find balance within ourselves. The Force is strong."

"Dooku: Jedi Lost" 2019
This fleeting moment of enlightenment was where the idea for Raven+Kite was born. I was called to hold space for people to weave their whole stories and leverage their creativity to acknowledge and share these stories as part of their day-to-day.
No artistic skill required!
It's as easy as getting dressed. Or setting the table. Or giving yourself permission to play.

The Story-Weaving Course
This 8-module course is designed to help you weave together the story you want to embody.
The course can be completed in your own time online (self-paced and solo), in person over a weekend (as part of a group of 4 to 8 people), or virtually with a group over 8 weeks.
No artistic or writing talent is required! Just a desire to flesh out the story you're telling right now, and live more intentionally into who you are through what you wear or how you curate the spaces you spend time in (or both).
