NATURE
CONNECTION

Earthmark's core offering is guided walking in Nature. A Nature/Forest Therapy Walk is not a fitness hike, not a naturalist-led point-and-name tour, and not psychotherapy in a natural setting. It’s as simple as walking in a natural environment and consciously connecting with what’s around you.

Over 2 to 3 hours you'll be guided through a series of invitations that aim to awaken your senses, encourage you to take in Nature at a gentle speed, and enliven a more conscious connection with the inherent healing properties of the More Than Human World.

Nature/Forest Therapy Walks have been scientifically proven to boost immunity, lower stress, and help your brain to work better. Over and above these physiological benefits, this practice also helps us to cultivate our connection to the Earth and her inhabitants.

“We don’t experience natural environments enough to realize how restored they can make us feel, nor are we aware that studies also show they make us healthier, more creative, more empathetic and more apt to engage with the world and with each other. Nature, it turns out, is good for civilization.”

FLORENCE WILLIAMS

"The Nature Fix"

My name is Janéne Steenkamp. I live in Hout Bay with my husband Paul, our daughter, and our hounds of love - Starbucks and Luna.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought me gifts of recalibrating, reframing, reinventing and relocating. It has also highlighted the deep need for us all to engage in personal rewilding, and how supporting this journey is what my work in the world is becoming.

In 2023 I launched my reimagined Earthmark venture - bringing my focus to reconnecting humans and nature, and from there holding space for fostering joy, creativity, relationship and healing.

January 2022 marked my certification as a Forest Therapy Guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy.

I am an artist, and trained at the Johannesburg Art Foundation in the late 1990s, and also completed my art-teaching qualification through UJ/CDP partnership. I taught at St Stithians Boys’ College in Gauteng before turning my attention to creative corporate facilitation, cartooning, photography and design.

Recently I've enjoyed connecting people in the corporate realm with their natural capacity for creativity and innovation by partnering with my husband Paul at Jack Frost - his problem-solving consultancy.
